Firstly, I would like to thank: darthmarlan for giving me permision to base this on his beautiful photo: Ancient Building. He has a stunning gallery so go check it out.

This is a model of an old Inn I have to finish for my art class. It is made almost completely out of polystirene. the base is plywood, the roof arches are made out of balsa wood (like the roof tiles) and the bricks are polystirene. PVA glue is the only thing that holds this together. IT IS NOT FINISHED! I wish it was though... :shakefist:

Primer: Titanium White
Base: Cobalt Black
Bricks: Cobalt Black w/ added white
Roof Tiles: Burnt Umber w/ added white

To get the bricks like that, simply base them w/ black, then slowly add white. each time you add white, drybrush the colour onto the model. Do this enough w/ a number of shades and it looks like stone. Likewise w/ the roof tiles + wooden parts, but w/ Burnt Umber 'stead of cobalt black.

I still need to cover the base w/ fake turf (like what you play turf sports on) and then colour that w/ green. Then, i have to make the gravel areas brown, stick on some gravel, then paint that. AND finally I need to base the windows back to white, mix up some PVA + light Blue, then make the windows.
... this is how I spend my free time. This has taken me about 7 weeks, among other things.

Dimensions: 40cm high x 40cm long x 20 cm wide. Is scaled to house a 3cm high miniature.
This is also only the SECOND model I have ever done, and so far is the only photo of it in my gallery. I went scabbing through numerous skip bins to find the amount of poly that I needed.

EDIT (Dec 24 08) ~ because lots of people wanted me to upload clearer photos I have uploaded the one you can now see. I hope this is a lot clearer for those concerned.
I only had a blue sheet though but I hope this will suffice.

The Old Inn: Near Finished by ~Aizrihdhel is a wonderfully detailed and intricate piece of sculpture work, it's hard to believe that it's dimensions place it a only at 40cm. The grey quality along with the run down look of the building reminds me of some of the building designs done by Tim Burton. ( Featured by !Thebuild )

This is excellent. This building very much seems like terrain for table top war gaming. Perhaps you know of it...

Hi, Aizrihdhel

I was wondering if you could help me with my project. The subject given to me is Sanctuary and I was thinking of doing the inside corner of a broken church with rubble. However, I also wanted to incorporate a small stain-glassed window on one wall of the corner so that if i shine a small light through it, some of the colour will fall onto the floor.

And I was wondering what media to use: polystyrene or sculpey polymer clay. For the brick work of the rubble and church I thought polystyrene and judging by the way yours came out, I hope to get a similar effect because it is truly amazing. Could you give me any tips?

Honestly, no. That is the first model I have done so I cannot give a fair judgement... I'd go with polystirene personally since I have never used clay. As for the stained glass windows, get some overhead projector paper and paint onto them with glass paints. That should work.

This is amazing! You said you want to cover the base with astro turf type stuff... why not pick up some of that fake moss stuff at a craft store.. it would fit the atmosphere better wouldn't it?

I would but that stuff is very expensive and doesn't go very far.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you really need to get some better pictures of this

It's gorgeous, but the background (withe the wall corner and the picture and the red under the model) is just detracting

I know but the thing isn't easy to photography. I will upload more photos soon because I am starting a new model.
