Artist's Comments

This is a photo of the completed Society's Puppet!
The photo needs to be photoshopped to get rid of the flare from the camera flash for which I need my laptop which isn't working. This will have to do for now.

I'm not too sure about the background but it will suffice. Overall it didn't turn out too bad for my second painting in over 3 years.

I have no idea how long this took- atleast 30 hours I think over about 4 or 5 months.

- water based acrylics
- A0 300 gsm paper

Nov.27.08 EDIT~ W/ this picture I have just been named the YOUNG AUSTRALIAN ARTIST OF THE YEAR. This is a really bad photo and once I get paypal a more true picture will be added and prints sold.

Dec.24.08 EDIT~ Have uploaded a clearer and more true photo. Although the photo is of a laminated print it is quite accurate.

I really like the compostion of this, the limited pallette and the way you've rendered the bone on the beak.

I have real trouble getting that almost watercolour effect with acrylics as you've achieved in the background - well impressed!

Thankyou! I am really glad the paper was 300gsm, and even then it buckled minorly. . . I would love to get an airbrush to make the background a lot smoother but for now I just use a large brush that is about 5 cm wide for such areas.

Heavy duty paper is usually quite forgiving, you must have really doused it to make it buckle! Ah, I'm always using miniture-painting brushes - never thought about using a wider brush. I'll give it a go next time.
